Before using EasyH10, one needs to know whether his or her player is working with UMS firmware or MTP firmware (because they are different in several aspects). One may confirm this in a FAQ section on the iRiver Global website. If iRiver classifies one's player as "WMP10 compatible", the player utilizes MTP firmware.
An H10 player working on Universal Serial Bus Mass Storage class (UMS) mode is recognized as an external HDD (e.g., "IRIVER Mass Storage Device" or "H10") by the operating system. Windows 98SE/2000/ME/2000 automatically assigns a drive letter (e.g., "D:") to the player. One may copy his or her music files, or any other files, freely as if he or she were handling storage media (I.E. a floppy disk, cdrom, dvdrom). UMS mode is compatible with a number of operating systems that support USB storage devices. When specifying a model template in EasyH10's dialog, choose one of templates that begin with "H10UMS" (e.g., H10UMS_5GB_2.04-2.51).
However, an H10 player working on Media Transfer Protocol (MTP) mode is recognized as a portable device (e.g., "Windows Portable devices" or "IRIVER H10") or an audio device. One may still access the content of the player but the access is limited because it is not merely a HDD but a special device wrapped/controlled by MTP. One needs to change the player mode from MTP to UMS by the UMS Trick as EasyH10 cannot access the necessary files in the player working on MTP mode. When specifying a model template in EasyH10's dialog, choose one of templates that begins with "H10MTP" (e.g., H10MTP_5GB_2.03-2.10).

For MTP users only: Folders \Music and \Playlists, where one is supposed to transfer the music/playlist files, may be hidden by default. Don't forget to change the "Folder Options" of the Windows Explorer to show these hidden folders.
